Tech Tips for Your Mainstage Show
FOR TECH REHEARSALS
- KEEP IT SIMPLE! This rule will save you a lot of grief.
- When you are planning your production use only the light and sound cues that you absolutely need. As a rule if you have more than 30 cues combined you probably have too many. Remember your performance can only run ONE hour… that averages to 1 cue every 2 minutes. The more tech elements you have… the more things can go wrong.
- Concentrate on the substance of your piece. All the special effects in the world is not going to save an ill prepared performance.
- Come prepared. You have ONE Tech Rehearsal. Use it well. We are supplying a Pre-Tech-Cue Sheet so that you can help us help you. If your cues are dependent on a script make sure you provide us with a copy on Tech Day with CLEARLY MARKED CUES.
- Come costumed for your performance and tech as we can check what the lights will do to them.
- Rehearse your show to the stage dimensions of your venue. That way any adjustments when you get on stage will be minor.
- TECH REHEARSALS are for CUE-TO-CUE Rehearsals, not for performance rehearsals.
- Before you come to Tech Rehearsals… rehearse your load-in and load-out. During your Tech Rehearsal make some time to run your load-in and load-out.
- TIME EVERYTHING! Remember your show cannot run more than 1 hour and your load-in and load-out is only 15 minutes.
- BE FLEXIBLE! Our venues are not traditional theater spaces but we are working hard to make them as theatre friendly as we can. They have worked well in the past and we are pouring in the effort to make them better.
- You will be provided with a light plot soon. For now you are looking at:
i. 1 warm wash
ii. 1 cool wash
iii. 1 special center stage
iv. 1 special stage right
v. 1 special stage left
There is actually a lot you can do with this with a little imagination.
