The INNER EAR Poetry Jam is a “live” venue showcasing Central Valley artists in spoken word, art, music and performance that breaks stereotypes and shatters perceptions. The jam features live music by local Fresno favorite THE HOUSE BAND along with the shows own mix master DJ JORDAN, plus LIVE PAINTING! Co-host DEANNA PIERRO and creator/host S. BRYAN MEDINA keeps things moving with special guests and their own original works. The Artist formerly known as FIG GARDEN SLIM (aka Joel Pickford) makes a rare appearance at this year’s festival, backed by a powerhouse blues band. Slim’s guitar work and vocals are characterized by tasteful phrasing, a healthy respect for tradition and deep blues feeling. As a blues festival and concert promoter, Slim brought artists like John Lee Hooker, Brownie McGhee and Robert Cray to Fresno. RON CATALANO QUARTET Blazing jazz saxophonist Ron Catalano has performed with artists such as Michael Feinstein, Natalie Cole, Vicki Carr and a host of others. Throughout the 1980s he served as Musical Director and Orchestrator for Bob Hope and worked with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Charlie Pride, and Glen Campbell. The son of Drummer Louis T. RICH SEVERSON TRIO Master jazz guitarist Rich Severson has students all over the world enrolled in his “Guitar College,” a home study program that he developed in 1989. He is a former instructor at GIT/Musicians Institute in Hollywood. He also teaches guitar workshops throughout the US and plays in many bands around the Central Valley. To date, he has recorded five CDs, plus numerous sessions backing other artists.
