Down An Old Road: The Poetic Life of Wilma Elizabeth McDaniel
Moab, UT

Like Steinbeck in The Grapes of Wrath, poet Wilma Elizabeth McDaniel turned the experiences of the Okies into literature. Unlike Steinbeck, she lived it. McDaniel left a sharecrop farm in Oklahoma, traveling with her family, and thousands of others, to California to escape the Dust Bowl. Down an Old Road, a 34-minute video by Chris Simon, is a lyrical protrait of this Anglo/Cherokee writer who has transcended cultural and class stigmas to create an enduring poetic commentary on heritage, spirituality, and the wonders of everyday life.

I wish there were more poets like Wilma McDaniel … Little slices of real truth, to be long savored. — Pete Seegar

It's a real gem! A window into a singular life … shaped by a big hunk of American history. — James Houston

Holophrastic Kinesics
DANCE FOR CAMERA
Fresno, CA

Cheryl Kershaw and Kenneth Balint of Holophrastic Kinesics once more search for meaning within “established systems of knowledge” as they present four video/dance creations. Join Cheryl and Kenneth for this stylized deformation of enhanced non-dance mobile expressiveness.

Holophrastic Kinesics’ projected dances for camera include: “Jolynn” an experimental narrative that features a sweet yellow dog, a hammock, Jolynn and friends to the sounds of country western music. “Tomb Raiders” an example of dance and video colliding and co-existing in a homage to the wars of yesterday, today and tomorrow. As well as, “Dimension X” and “I’m Available for You” two new choreographic constructions turned upside down and inside out.

Libby Goold Productions
KATHMANDU: The Fragile Valley
Los Angeles, CA

Breathtaking scenery, but a disrupted culture. This is more than just a travelog of a beautiful but vanishing country and way of life, it’s a cautionary tale about our involvement in foreign countries. This short film by Libby Goold Productions tells what happens to a tradition bound culture overwhelmed by the western world.
