Adventures In Time

Belly Dance Fusion with a Temporal Twist
60 minutes, RATED PG
Content: Sparkly costumes, a bunch of smiling dancers, and a good time

What happens when belly dancers get lost in time? They have to shimmy their way back to the present, of course. Come along as they go careening through the popular music of many eras. The intrepid temporal wanderers use their moves, fringe, shiny things, surprises and smiles to infuse new life into those old standards you associate with different decades. This isn’t belly dance like you’ve seen or heard it before! (No animals, small children or timekeeping devices were harmed in the making of this production.)

One Act Comedy
60 minutes, RATED PG-13

Is the grass really greener on the other side? Does a woman really need a man who needs a woman who has no need to be needed? Can I meet my soulmate in a bar? Is it OK to fake it? Can infidelity save your marriage? If your lover offered you everything you’ve ever wanted, would you still want it? These questions and more will be hilariously answered by six couples and a sancha. If you believe in happily-ever-after, and especially if you don’t — you won’t want to miss out on this voyeuristic thrill ride.

Post-Modern Experimental Art Music

 60 minutes, RATED PG

Content: Loud noises, music that may be disturbing to some.

The New Music Ensemble — featuring some of the area’s finest young instrumentalists — presents an innovative program of vital, post-modern experimental music by talented emerging composers from CSU Fresno. The constant collaboration between the performers and composers, unheard of in the realm of classical art music, allows the ensemble the unique opportunity to refine their art while simultaneously pushing the limits of contemporary art music. The Ensemble, directed by CSUF composer Robert Strizich, will be performing works by Josh Appleby, Nat Dahman, Mason Lamb, Jabriel Pumarejo, Rafael Silva, and David Van Dyke Stewart and David Van Gilluwe. Come and hear young virtuoso musicians perform new music that is both engaging and provocative!

The Rap Canterbury Tales

Spoken Word/Storytelling
60 minutes RATED: PG
CONTENT: Comical descriptions of sex and violence, references to geriatric lechery, flatulence, cuckolding, explicit euphemisms and literary content.

Created and performed by Canadian rap artist and medieval scholar Baba Brinkman, “The Rap Canterbury Tales” brings Chaucer’s masterpiece to life on stage as an exciting oral performance. The Pilgrims are transported into a contemporary hip-hop setting: they are rappers on a tour bus between gigs, passing time with a storytelling battle. Hilarious and powerful, Chaucer’s stories of murder, lust, jealousy, greed and adultery endure the test of time. The hit of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is coming to Fresno!

“Truly awe-inspiring. Five Stars!” - The Scotsman, Edinburgh
“A tour de force!” - SF Weekly, San Francisco Fringe

Character & Improvisational Comedy
60 minutes, RATED: PG
(Please, God, let us be funny)

We sent the word out and the response has been amazing! Celebrities from all over the world have pledged their time and talent for our improv-a-thon in an effort to entertain you and raise the vast sums necessary to provide some kind of purely decorative shade. There’s the Governor’s big brother; the latest teen pop star; an impersonator from the Jewish Elvis’s local 189; the underwater barrel riding champion from Clovis; and many more including whoever shows up! However, even with this plethora of talent at our disposal, your participation is also necessary. Join us and help control the comedy! Bring a friend and come back again and again as each improv-a-thon is different from the last. Help us help this pitiful lamp once again light the room with a semblance of pride.
