THANK
YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You like me, you really like me…okay, I’m just kidding on that. I don’t really give a good goddamn if you do. Why? Because I’m a Rogue and we hate anyone tries to legitimize us. We want to be hated, we want to be ostracized, we want to sleep in our own urine and other bodily wastes…and you like me, you really do. All right, I’m an attention slut and you have given me the ultimate back rub by showing up to the festival. Thank you all. This was a good second year. We will bring it back again. There is a hunger in this town that is not to be denied and if we can help sate it we will. Not that I want to sate it. I want to inflame it until the city can’t hold it within. Until it explodes into something that transcends itself and gives birth to a creature that will always want for more milk. You never have a true entity unto itself if it is satisfied with what it is. Always try for more. Always aspire to better. Always mock the one who wishes you well, but doesn’t attend. Always give to the one who has less, but doesn’t hold it against you. Always remember those who supported you and loved what you do, even if they couldn’t make it to the gig.
There is a hunger in this town. There is a need. There is an insatiable drive to make this city what it needs to be. For a short two years Theatre J’nerique has provided a slight break from the tedium that most Fresnans inhabit continuously. We are more grateful to you who showed up than you can ever know. We didn’t do this for money or local celebrity. We did this, because no one else will. And somebody has to. This city is too large to let its artists go to waste. This city has a soul that is screaming to be let out of its cage. As spokesman for Theatre J’nerique, I take it upon myself to say that what you witnessed this year is nothing compared to what it can be. We, as artists and patrons, can transform this community into something that transcends art. We can make ourselves into a people that embraces opportunity.
And, so, on this last day of our festival, I thank you for being a part of it, but I call on you to help us continue its growth. In just two years this thing has grown to proportions we were not expecting. We can continue to help it grow, but only with your help.
In July, we will begin accepting applications for next year’s festival. As always, it’s first come first accepted. We are non-juried (and that means we don’t pick and choose). If you think you need an affordable venue to show off your stuff, then apply. If you know somebody from somewhere else, then –by all means- send them our link (which you can find at the top of this rant). We became a national festival this year. We are very proud of that. But we want more. We want a confluence of talent from everywhere that says Fresno is a den of arts and not to be denied. For too many years, we have lived in the shadow of everyone. Now, with this festival, other cities around the country are beginning to take notice. It’s up to us to ensure that growth and awareness continues.
Go to www.theatrejnerique.com or www.roguefestival.com for more information on how you can help. Be a volunteer, be an artist. To me, the value is the same. So long as it works.

Oh no oh no oh no!!!!!!!! It’s here, it’s already here…um, I mean: Finally, at long last it’s here. Heh. The festival that killed the video star. The festival that wasn’t there the night Chicago died (I’ve always wondered if that song referred to the city or the band). The festival that got the mayor to sit up and say “Who are you and what are your ransom demands and is there a part for me?” (really, he didn’t say that. I’m just reading between the lines). We are the festival with the hippest t-shirts, the coolest venues and the sickest artists (take that how you will). The 2nd Annual Rogue Performance Festival opens this evening. Turn the page over for tonight’s acts or go home and log on to our website (located above) for the full schedule.

So, You Wanna Be A Reviewer? Huh? Do Ya? Check out our
website where you can click on shows and write your own review. This is
such a cool, new facet of our site that some people aren’t even waiting
for the festival to start before leaving their impressions…

PANDERMONIUM: GREEN CARD ENVY Okay,
so now it’s my turn to push a show I’m
in. This is the simple story of a simple illegal alien who simply wants a
green card. But he has to commit a serious crime- fraud –in order to
obtain it. Will his fake marriage to an American woman hold up? Will her
real husband screw the deal in a fit of jealousy? Will the cast follow the
script this time and actually finish the play before it dissolves into
petty squabbles about who’s sleeping with whom? Will all of the actors
even show up on time? This “feel good” piece is not to be missed…we
know where you live. Now
showing at the Starline: ( the price is $5) Friday,
March 7 at 10:00 p.m.

LUCIA PAMELA It's not over yet,
folks! The Rogue Festival, Fresno's only event dedicated to
original, cutting edge performance continues this weekend. Saturday, March 8 at 1:00
will be your last chance to see Beyond
The Moon, The Music of
Lucia Pamela. And if you caught last week's performance,
here's the opportunity to see it again! Join eight of Fresno's best
musicians and one performance artist as they present the songs of this
nutty former Fresnan in new, exciting ways. Come on down to the Starline
and see how much fun space travel can be. Just a reminder -- the proceeds from Beyond The
Moon will go to the upkeep of Storyland.
Why Storyland, you ask?
Come to the show and find out... For details on other performances in The Rogue
Festival, go to http://www.roguefestival.com. On the first anniversary of 9-11, a CEO
describes the war on terror as the best thing that ever
happened to him and his salary. Warning: this sarcastic and touching
monologue presents an alternative version of history in which the attack on
America was even worse than it was. 7:30 PM, Friday, March 7
3:30 PM, Saturday, March 8 Jay
Martin, from San Francisco, has
performed this piece in the San Francisco Fringe Festival in recent years
and is a welcome addition to our young festival. Two shows only at Veni
Vidi Vici’s. Ticket price is a paltry $3. And don’t forget all
of the other wonderful acts at Veni Vidi Vici’s. Pick up a Rogue Map
wherever they are available. Darn tootin’. |
