African American Historical and Cultural Museum, Fresno

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The African American Historical & Cultural Museum in Fresno kicks off the holiday season with "Keep Step to the Music" -- a journey through time highlighting the role of African American Army musicians from 1770 to 1940. The music of the century, ragtime and jazz, isn't the only influence these pioneers had on history. Wars were fought and won throughout history with music being an essential part of the victory. The Museum is at 1857 Fulton Street in downtown Fresno.
Central High School will be having its 2002 Central Baseball Alumni Home Run Dinner/Dance for anyone over 18 years old in the banquet room at Pardini's Restaurant. Tickets are $30 per person and will benefit the CHS baseball program. There will be a silent auction and raffle prize drawings. Pardini's is at 2257 W. Shaw in Fresno.
Students in grades 1 - college are encouraged to write an essay about their experiences and the people they know. The theme: Reflections: stories from my life. Winners will be in six divisions. Prizes are U.S. Savings bonds. $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third in each category. Mail entries to John Kallenberg, Fresno County Librarian, 2420 Mariposa St., Fresno, CA 93721.
The 24th Annual Black Heritage Banquet will be held at the Cornerstone Lodge in Merced. The lodge is located at 4246 W. Hwy 140. Please contact the above telephone numbers for reservations.
River Ridge

EVENT DESCRIPTION
Volunteers are needed to help spruce up River Ridge. Help prepare trails, picnic sites and exhibit areas. Bring gloves, loppers, and garden rakes and your lunch. A horseshoe tournament and Frisbee football for fun after lunch.
Take a ride along the Kings River. There will be 4 ride lengths from 10 miles to 100k.
Rides start at Reedley's Cricket Hollow Park on the Kings River at Olson Ave. Lunch is included with registration. SAG assistance and fully catered rest stops are included.
This is a fun ride. Register in advance.
Join the Bullard High folks as they induct individual's into their Hall of Fame. This years inductees are Joe Lamoure, Richie Gaynor, Randy Asador, Lance Shebelut and Todd Johnson. Call 431-2777 after 6 pm for tickets.
High school junior who are interested in brain research, genomes or genetics should apply for the UCSF Summer Biomedical Research Internship Program. Selected students will work from June through August on a variety of medical and science based projects. Each participant will then receive a stipend. The Tulare Palette Club will feature an acrylics demonstration with Jerome Grimmer at the Tulare Historical Museum. The Museum is located at 444 W. Tulare Avenue in Tulare.
The 2002 Mario G. Olmos Scholarship Fund and Banquet will be held at Casa Blanca Banquets in downtown Fresno. The La Raza Lawyer's Association of Fresno host this event.
The Sunnyside High School theatre department presents, "Once On This Island." Ragtime writers and composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty weave a story of love and hope with the musical rhythms of the Caribbean. Tickets are available at the door.
Sanger Recreation Department

Guys and Gals are encouraged to register for Sangers Coed Volleyball. League begins March 5 and games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at the Sanger Community Center.
Low income cat owners with a valid MediCal card can now get their cat spayed or neutered for free at the Alta Animal Hospital in Clovis. Wild or feral cats are also provided free spaying or neutering without income restrictions but must be transported in traps. The program is sponsored by the California Veterinary Medical Association through a grant from Maddie's Fund.
Tulare Union High School will present the musical, "Bye Bye Birdie." Performances will be held in the newly remodeled Tulare Community Auditorium, 755 East Tulare Ave.
Performances will be Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 as well as a 2 pm matinee on Saturday.
The Junior League of Fresno is collecting teddy bears for children in crisis. Donate new, stuffed teddy bears at any Fresno City Fire Station or any Starbuck's location in Fresno and Clovis. The Discovery center and the Junior League office at 1377 W. Shaw, Ste. 111.
The Rogue Performance Festival is a six-day theatre festival of original and previously performed works, incorporating over 50 performances. 100% of the box off receipts go directly to the artists. The St. Patty's Day Run at Woodward Park is a fun activity for the whole family. This fund-raising event benefits the IDC Charity Fund. There will be a kids 1/2 & 1/4 mile run, a 2 mile run or walk, and a 10k run. Pick up a registration form at local major sporting goods outlets.
